Spelcray Haven

Not every traveler is suited for every Haven. Not every Haven is suited for every traveler. Sometimes, it does an individual good to remember such a thing, and take it to heart that it does not meant that the Haven in question is necessarily terrible. This does not meant that one will feel any more warmed or comforted when they are forced to stumble past packs of beasts more troublesome than they may be used to in order to sleep on hard rock surrounded by further rock while the cold ocean breeze batters their tired body. However, it does work to prepare them just a little more than they otherwise might have been.

Yet Havens such as Spelcray nonetheless have their fans, and provide their own invaluable service. Indeed, one must make a somewhat grueling journey down stairs, past sunbathing seadevils, and scramble across slippery rocks to reach it. Yet no other Haven on the continent can boast an access to the wealth of the sea as Spelcray does.

Those with a true adoration for sea food to the extent of laboring for it will thus find Spelcray a sort of paradise. Down at the rocks constantly threatened by the tide, mussels and clams are in steady supply, to which I must admit taste absolutely delightful. Then, right before the Haven itself, lies a small dock for the determined angler to cast their line.

Spelcray's dock is far for the inexperience, however. One would even say it is not a dock for those who are ill equipped from the start. In contrast to the little bluegills and alstor bass which are so plentiful amongst the many inland docks so many spend their time at, seaborn fish are a much more stubborn breed. Certainly many of the fish there by Spelcray are far heavier than the vast majority of fish which can be found inland, with only those such as the gar up in Vesperpool giving them a run for their money.

For some fishermen, Spelcray is thus one of the final tests (although by far not the ultimate test) in their skills. If they can reliably pull in grouper after group, allural bass after bass, then surely they will be ready for the true water beasts.

Alternatively, there are many others who misjudged the length of the road along the coast, and thus had to scramble for a Haven.

My recommendation for meals remains the same. It is nothing short of a tragedy to find one's self at a wealth of seafood and not enjoy it all. In particular, the Cleigne mollusk prospers down there in the rocks, and it is with that, along with fresh Caem pinkshrimp which can be bought from local vendors as much as some Saxham rice, which I recommend a dish called the Fisherman'ss Favorite Paella. While it may be a hard journey down there to the rocks, it is a journey well spent with the sea air in your lungs and paella in your stomach.

For the quality of the seafood...

fishfearme: if you're a fisherman, then you NEED to go down to the Caem Shore that's right at spelcray's doorstep. i'm not joking. just trust me on this. listen all the fish everywhere else are great, they're fantastic, they're exactly what a lot of people are looking for in different ways. but you just won't get it until you're fighting for your line's life, trying to haul in those huge fat tide groupers that go up to 80 pounds and won't give an INCH, or the dark and copper allural sea bass which will make a jump every other two seconds. and then there's even some great striped barramundi you can catch. there's little fishes  too such as black barrelfish, but honestly? you'll be catching so many of those big fishes that make you fight that you'll actually have to put in a little work to reel in those guys. even better is that most of the fish you're pulling in are things you can cook. and it's soooooooooo good cooking. i actually corresponded with the reviewer while they were writing this and it was harder to narrow down what recommended recipe should go up in the first place because i think they're all great. great if you're an angler, great if you're a cook ★★★★★

chocobro: imo the people who love coming down here have smth wrong with them. ★✩✩✩✩

womenwantme: I'm going to be honest here in that I think perhaps the reviewer put maybe just a little too much weight into the opinions of certain fishermen who really love going down to the shore so that they can fish up big fat fish... But I will admit that while Spelcray isn't my usual preferred fishing location, it does have something unique kind of going for it. It's not such a bad thing to branch out and go over some rocks while the wind whips the ocean's spray into your hot skin. ★★★✩✩
